The value of AD models

When pursuing questions related to AD pathogenesis and pathology progression, we are often limited by the laboratory models that are available to us. For many of the animal models, it is difficult to tease out whether the observed pathology is related to the induced mutation or whether it is due to the aberrant overexpression of the protein. Thus, it is important that researchers limit their studies to only those aspects of AD pathology that their model of choice sufficiently phenocopies.
